About Dr. Nixon

Denise Nixon is a full-time adjunct college professor, freelance consultant, and entrepreneur who specializes in E-learning, professional development, training, and instruction. With over 28 years of combined experience in both K-12 public schools, higher education, and leadership, her passion for teaching and learning has allowed her to currently work with numerous colleges and universities in designing and teaching courses for aspiring teachers and educational leaders.

Denise is proud to have served her community through her K-12 public education service with Sumter School District in South Carolina in the roles of school counselor, school administrator, recruitment coordinator, personnel director, and assistant superintendent for human resources. After her service in public school education, she pivoted her career focus toward recruiting high quality teachers and other employees through the establishment of a recruitment agency, OneCore Workforce Solutions, LLC, in 2017. Through this entrepreneurial endeavor, she worked with numerous school districts and companies to recruit teachers and other qualified workers.

As a result of the pandemic, she made another pivot in her career when her business closed, and she moved her focus to online and virtual instruction, where she currently teaches and designs online courses with several colleges and universities across the United States. She also serves as a clinical supervisor for student teachers and principal interns. She also started another business with a focus on eLearning and Training Development, BFP Creative Works, where she provides eLearning and educational consulting services.

In addition to her freelance consulting and online teaching, she continues outreach and inspiration to leaders and educators through her podcasts, motivational speaking, voiceover projects, and writing. Her book, Power, Love, and A Sound Mind: How Three Simple Truths Changed My Life, is a testimony of how her faith led her to living a life on purpose while fulfilling her unrelenting passion to empower others by helping them achieve their goals. She also serves as a group facilitator for the Faith Driven Entrepreneur organization and hosts a podcast, Pivot By Faith, featuring people of faith who overcame obstacles and courageously made a pivot in their lives to achieve their dreams.

Denise earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Master of Education in School Counseling, and Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. She also earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Leadership from Capella University. She holds current educator certifications in the areas of Elementary Guidance Counselor, Principal, and Supervisor.

Her career advice to others – “Be passionate and intentional in your work. Live and lead on purpose, and keep your focus on what truly matters.”
